About the Federal Association of German Private Schools
German private schools are attended by more than 800,000 students. Even a larger number participate in the programs for long life education offered by independently managed institutions.
VDP works with educational institutions in all ranks: general education, vocational training as well as further education and in the tertiary sector (secondary education or vocational training).
VDP is independent and neither linked to any political party nor to any confession. Together with the two Confessional Associations of Private Schools, the Federation of Free Waldorf Schools and the Union of German Boarding schools, the VDP forms the Research and Working group of Free Schools.
The oldest association of German private schools, established in 1901, has its secretariat with a press department in Frankfurt am Main, a main office in Berlin and eight federal secretariats. There are thirteen federal associations and six working groups associated to the VDP. The Federal Association of Free and Alternative Schools based in Marl (North Rhine-Westphalia), the Federal Association of Non-profit Institutions for Adult Education in Germany based in Bamberg (Bavaria) and the SAK Academy for Secretariat, Assistance and Communication, with its headquarters in Düsseldorf (North Rhine-Westphalia) and Berlin are corporate members of the VDP.
VDP has made an agreement with the telc company about obtaining a license for The European Languages Certificates (TELC). People interested in TELC can prepare those tests which are geared to the European Concept of Language Learning at about 100 VDP locations in Germany.
